Ingredients

  • 2 Tbsp Tamarind
  • 1/2 Cup Roasted Chana Dal
  • 1 Tsp Oil
  • 2 Green Chillies
  • 1/2 Tsp Mustard Seeds
  • 1/2 Tsp Cumin Seeds[Jeera]
  • 2 Tbsp Peanuts
  • 1 Tbsp Chopped Garlic
  • 3 Chopped Green Chillies
  • 6-8 Curry Leaves
  • 1/2 Cup + 3 Tbsp Chopped Onion
  • 1 1/2 Tsp Salt
  • 1 Tsp Turmeric Powder
  • 2 Cups Puffed Rice
  • 3 Tbsp Chopped Tomatoes
  • 1 Tsp Red Chilli Powder
  • 2 Tbsp Sev
  • 1 Tbsp Chopped Coriander Leaves

Instructions

  • Take 2 Tbsp of tamarind in a bowl, and add warm water.
  • Squeeze well and soak for 10 minutes. Later, sieve and extract the tamarind pulp.
  • Blend roasted chana dal to a fine powder and set aside.
  • In a hot pan, add oil, and shallow fry green chillies.
  • Sprinkle some salt, mix well, and set aside.
  • Set the same pan on medium-high heat, add oil, mustard seeds, cumin seeds (Jeera), and peanuts. Fry the peanuts till they change color and are evenly roasted.
  • Then, add chopped garlic and green chillies, and saute for 2 to 3 minutes. Garlic turns aromatic.
  • Add a few curry leaves, and saute for another minute. Then, add the chopped onions, and saute till they turn translucent.
  • Next, add salt and turmeric powder, and saute for 5 minutes till all the flavors are absorbed.
  • Then, add the extracted tamarind pulp, and saute for another 3-4 minutes. The mixture thickens, and the girmit masala is ready!
  • Take a large bowl, and add puffed rice, roasted chana dal powder, chopped onions, chopped tomatoes, salt, red chilli powder, and girmit masala. Give a good mix.
  • Garnish with sev, coriander, and fried chillies. Enjoy!
