This is one of the most popular snacks in Manipal, Karnataka. This street food sold in the food cart is available for students at any time of the day. When you have buns at home, this simple, easy, and super delicious recipe is very handy on the go during hiking, travel, or lunch box for kids.

Ingredients
  

  • 2 Tbsp Oil + 1 Tsp
  • 1 Tsp Mustard Seeds
  • 1 Tsp Cumin Seeds (Jeera)
  • 2 Cups Chopped Onions
  • 1 Cup Chopped Tomatoes
  • 1 Tsp Salt
  • 1 Tsp Red Chilli Powder
  • 1 Tsp Garam Masala
  • 3 Tbsp Milk
  • 3 Tbsp Chopped Coriander
  • 2 Buns

Instructions
 

  • To a pan on medium heat, add oil, mustard seeds, and cumin seeds.
  • Once the mustard seeds sizzle or pop, add chopped onion and saute for 1-2 minutes until onion turns translucent. Then, add chopped tomatoes and saute for another minute.
  • Next, add salt, red chilli powder, and garam masala and combine everything well.
  • Now, add milk and saute for 5 minutes on medium high heat until mixture thickens.
  • Finally, add chopped coriander, mix well and set aside.
  • Heat a griddle or iron tawa and spread some oil. Place the sliced bun and top it with a thick layer of masala mixture and then place another slice of the bun on the masala mixture.
  • Sprinkle some oil on top of the bun and using a spatula, flip and toast the stuffed masala bun. Serve hot and Enjoy!

Notes

  • If you prefer to eat an egg, add an egg after adding milk and cook till you get a thick masala mixture. 
  • You can replace oil with butter too.
